This league is designed for beginner players, especially those new to the game or looking to methodically build a new army and master the intricacies of Warhammer 40,000.

How the League Works

Our Slow Grow League is designed to be an engaging journey over several weeks:

  1. Starting Point: All participants begin with a 1000-point Warhammer 40,000 army. This is a great entry point to learn core mechanics without being overwhelmed.

  2. Progression: Each session, players will have the opportunity to play games against different opponents in the league. As the weeks go by, the points limit for your armies will slowly increase, allowing you to add new units to your force – a perfect excuse to pick up those exciting new kits from The Grand Strategium!

  3. Guidance & Support: Throughout the league, we'll offer advice on list building for the new points levels and discuss strategies. Members of the L7 team will be on hand during certain periods to offer their expertise.

  4. Grand Finale - Mini RTT: The league culminates in a fun, one-day mini Round Robin Tournament (RTT) where you'll play two games with your fully grown army, putting everything you've learned into practice!

What You'll Master

This isn't just about playing games; it's about becoming a more confident and skilled Warhammer 40,000 commander. You'll learn about:

  • Effective Army List Building: Understanding synergies, unit roles, and how to build a balanced force at different point levels.

  • Understanding Terrain: How to use different types of terrain to your advantage and mitigate your opponent's.

  • Core Game Mechanics & Stratagems: Deepen your understanding of rules, phases, and how to effectively use Command Points and Stratagems.

  • Mission Objectives & Secondaries: Learn how to play the mission, select achievable secondary objectives, and score those crucial victory points.

  • Fundamentals of Competitive Play: Get an introduction to the mindset and strategies used in more competitive settings, all in a friendly learning environment.

  • Advanced tactics and gameplay concepts: Killing everything is fun, but the way to win games is to be a better general than your opponent! - effective tactics, use of stratagems, sacrificial units, blocking and objective control!  
  • Hobby Progress: Motivation to build and paint your models as your army grows!

  • Borrow an army: Your first session there's the potential to borrow an army!

  • Duration: Runs over several weeks (specific schedule will be announced for each season). Sessions last 3 hours, details will be on the Events page

  • Perks: Learn from L7 team members, play with similarly skilled players, gradually build your army (with supplies from TGS!), and culminate in a mini-RTT.
